Wolfstep Projects was formed in 1967 as a partnership between the Wolf Group and a prominent construction company of the time. The new entitys first project was a small factory in Coppin St. Richmond. Other factories in Richmond and South Melbourne followed soon after and the Wolfstep name was established.
In the early 1970s the keen eye of Pinkas Wolf observed small businesses in unsuitable tenancies above shops in the Camberwell Junction area. Showing typical foresight, Wolfstep seized the opportunity to provide quality purpose built offices, at a similar rental to the substandard above shop accommodation. Wolfstep built the first medium high rise development in Cambwerwell at 695 Burke Rd in 1973, despite the misgivings of its peers. The office/retail space was quickly leased to the CBA Bank and Commonwealth Government of Australia.
During the 1970s and 1980s Wolfstep moved away from its role as a builder of factory developments to developing and building its own industrial and commercial projects, specialising in suburban office accommodation. Wolfstep is well known for and proud of the numerous quality office buildings it has developed in Hawthorn, particularly in Auburn and Camberwell Roads.
Wolfsteps Portside Business Park, developed on an 8-hectare site purchased from GMH at Fishermans Bend, set a new benchmark for subsequent development in Port Melbourne. The prestigious business park consists of a number of fully refurbished art deco buildings and 21 high tech office warehouse units.
In 1997 Wolfstep lead market trends again in foreseeing the need for strata titled self contained office suites. Wolfstep responded with 22 Horne St Elsternwick, the success of which lead to 131 Bulleen Rd Balwyn, 242 Hawthorn Rd Caulfield, 431 Burke Rd Hawthorn and most recently 241 Blackburn Rd Mt Waverley.
